Comment[edit]

Bürgermeister is German, not Dutch. The Dutch word for Mayor is burgemeester, without a capital. Best, GB

Dubious[edit]

The statement the song was introduced by settlers in New Amsterdam is present in the source but this seems nonetheless unfounded. Valerius didn't remain consistently popular after the Eighty Years' War and his newfound popularity began in the nineteenth century. The English translation was from 1894. [1] That it was brought to the American colonies is uncertain but perhaps possible, but if so this does certainly not have any link to the modern English version. It looks too tenuous and irrelevant to mention. 195.169.52.66 (talk) 12:28, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
