The result of the move request was: No move. Consensus is that the proposed name is incomplete disambiguation and the year is needed. A Christmas Story (1972 TV special) → A Christmas Story (TV special) – Followup to reverted bold page move. Article is currently unnecessarily disambiguated by year – this is the only article (or redirect) that is disambiguated by "TV special" so "by year disambiguation" is unnecessary. The only other candidate is A Christmas Story which as the lede makes clear is a television film (and which, indeed, is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for this title, and needs no further disambiguation in any case). Oppose per WP:INCDAB because the classic 1983 film A Christmas Story is often described using the nebulous term "special", especially as part of the 24-hour marathon of it on television. Likewise, A Christmas Story Live! was called a "special". As (TV special) is not listed as a valid alternative at WP:NCTV, I would not oppose an alternate move to A Christmas Story (1972 film) since the content is an animated short film (ref) which is viewable in a number of contexts (that is, its only called a "TV special" as a marketing term related to certain airings). - A Christmas Story is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. No one looking for that, is going to accidentally end up at A Christmas Story (TV special). (We can add a hatnote, if it'll alleviate concerns.) Meanwhile, if you want, feel free to create a perfunctory redirect at A Christmas Story (1983 TV special), but there is no need to leave the 1972 special at A Christmas Story (1972 TV special) because, realistically, nobody looking for the 1983 film is going to end up at A Christmas Story (TV special). I'm not citing IMDB as a source, I'm showing how another major information resource classifies this topic to demonstrate that we probably have it wrong. Beyond the film, and the live musical version, we could probably also find that several TV episodes named "(The/A) Christmas Story" were called "specials" in their day. -- Netoholic @ 00:25, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
