Some February entries are extremely peripheral to the conflict. Are gang battles between Puntland pirate factions and targeted assasinations of men neither affiliated with the government or the military really within the scope of a military conflict article? --Ingoman (talk) 02:07, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

maybe we should rename the article, like "2009 timeline of the armed violence in Somalia" 93.105.95.134 (talk) 10:07, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed some errors in the reporting for march and one in January. I tried to fix it but I'm pretty sure i made a few errors my self. I'll come back later to refix it. In the mean time I suggest we double check everything. Also I removed the pirates since they never included them in the 2008 list for a reason. They aren't actually part of the conflict and they aren't civilians. One thing I want to do is to amalgamate some of the sides in the table together. We join together the Somali sides who are fighting together along with their Somali opponents. The only ones who seperate are foreign troops and Civilians. I suck at explaining so I'll just show you it what we can do.

Pro-Government forces - Islamists - AMISOM Civilians

We can't keep having Moderates/Radical Islamists. These terms are figurative. What my friends here in the UK would consider to be radical like Sharia law wouldn't be considered to be radical by cousin in Somalia. Furious Stormrage (talk) 14:20, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The ARS self identifies as a "moderate Islamist" organization, this is not a designation wikipedia has created. The lines between the ARS Islamists and the Al-Shabeeb/allied Islamists in the conflict are clearly drawn, particularly as their current fighting is the result of disagreement on the degree of Islamism in Somalia's government. --NEMT (talk) 07:14, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is one problem with this designation. To many factions have different ideas. For example the President despite his Islamist past didn't really want to pursue Sharia law until he was forced to do so to stop the opposition attacking his forces and pressure from the elders. The are extremists in his group. A lot of the figthers who are supporting him now ignored every single thing he said about ceasefires until the Ethiopians left Mogadishu. The ARS isn't technically not even an Islamist group. It's composed to a broad based slice of Somalia. From people who are in diaspora,ex-warlords,seculars, somalis,Islamists and certain prominent individuals. It's leaders are Islamists but it's not really Islamic.

Also much of the fighting has little to do with the type of Islam. It's mainly about western influence on the future government of Somalia. Al-Shabab/Hizbul Islam are pissed that Sharif comes and takes credit for the 2 years of blood they shed and the fact that he is creating a western style government. It doesn't help when he keept the AU forces who supported the Ethiopians and massacred Somalis while blamining it on Al-Shabab or the fact that he went and shook the hands Meles Zenawi. To say this is about Islamism is to ignore i would say 95% of the issue. Furious Stormrage (talk) 10:46, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

and yet the distinction between the "moderate islamists" of the ARS and the hardliners of al Shabeeb is still very clear. Whether or not Sharif Ahmed still supports Sharia law is immaterial. --NEMT (talk) 18:50, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The deaths from a diarrhea outbreak are in no way related to the armed conflict, their total is being removed from the death chart. --NEMT (talk) 07:14, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some one reverted my edits[edit]

Canadian87 reverted my edits. Bringing back all the errors that i bothered to remove. It's sad to see that no one actually noticed or cared enough. Oh well. At least he's blocked.

But there is something else. We've got one of last years battle here for the 7th of April. I remember this one. It was after the Ethiopians withdrew from Beledweyne to go after Al-Shabab in Galgadud. They tried to meet elders in one of the towns they went to. But the elders hid and when they wanted water they were refused. The Islamic Courts ambushed them when they were coming back. They only managed to reconquer half of Beledweyne when they came back. Furious Stormrage (talk) 18:59, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rename page Timeline of the War in Somalia?[edit]

Since it seems as if this conflict will not be ending anytime soon, we should probably rename this page Timeline of the War in Somalia (2009- or something like that.

Thoughts? Bkissin (talk) 19:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
