Update[edit]

I've updated and added information on events, disciplines, etc. There's still room for expansion, but as this is already bigger than several articles on previous Winter Paralympic Games I've removed the expand tag. So, when do I get to de-stub it? Eron 16:31, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've double-checked both the Torino web site and the IPC's information. There are 39 countries participating at the Games, not 40. Also, there are four sports, not five. Cross-country skiing and biathlon are both disciplines of one sport, Nordic skiing. Eron 18:41, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are indeed 39 nations participating. The full list can be found here (PDF), if anyone feels up to working it into the article... Aridd 11:24, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on it. Eron 15:12, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's done. The country links are all to "(Nation) at the 2006 Winter Paralympics," reflecting the same style as on the Olympic games page, but most of those are red links being worked on right now. Eron 15:48, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The IPC Style Guide states that "Paralympic Games" and "Paralympics" are always in plural and take plural verbs. Eron 22:35, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Number of athletes wrong?[edit]

I think there is something wrong with the number of athletes. The article says that there were 21 athletes from Switzerland. But look at their site: http://www2.swissparalympic.ch/abfragen/athleten.php?event=torino2006&lang=de There are 22 athletes in total, or? --Grandy02 17:20, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Both the International Paralympic Committee [1] and the Torino Organizing Committee [2] show 21 athletes for Switzerland. As these are the offical games governing bodies, I think we need to go with their numbers. The list you link to includes one athlete - Karin Fasel, a female alpine skier - who does not appear on Torino's list of athletes. Eron 18:22, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that. At first I thought that they didn't mention Karin Fasel because she couldn't take part in the games. But also Nadja Baumgartner, the mentioned female alpine skier, couldn't take part. So I think the Committee made a mistake. I started the German article de:Winter-Paralympics 2006/Teilnehmer (Schweiz) and it looks a bit strange because it says that they had 21 athletes but 22 are in the list. --Grandy02 17:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked over the start lists for all the women's alpine skiing events, and I can't see either of the Swiss women listed, which suggests to me that neither of them competed. But Baumgartner is listed as part of the delegation on the Torino web site. Do you have a reference for her not being part of the team, or for Fasel being on it? Or should the number be 20? Eron 18:11, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Look in the list which I told about in my first message and click on their names. Both sites say "(Name) muss verletzungsbedingt auf die Paralympics verzichten. (SPC, 06.03.06)". That means that they couldn't take part because of injury. But I think both of them belong still to the list, I made a hint in the German Wikipedia by their names. --Grandy02 10:32, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did look at that list and I did click their names. Sadly, ich kann nur ein bisschen deutsches sprechen so I did not understand the comment. I don't know why one is on the official IPC and TOROC list, and one not. Perhaps Fasel was dropped from the team before arriving in Torino, and Baumgartner after? In any case, I think a note about that could be mentioned on the page Switzerland at the 2006 Winter Paralympics, but the main page here should rely on the official rosters for the Games published by the organizing committee. Fair use rationale for Image:Torino Paralympic Mascot.jpg[edit]

Image:Torino Paralympic Mascot.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
