"UW10K"[edit]

I know the Graphics display resolution page and other similar pages dealing with resolutions have a large problem with "made-up names". The naming systems for resolutions are largely non-standardized and are therefore rather inconsistent and a bit of a mess, and I guess some internet people have a really hard time dealing with that, and say to themselves "I really wish the naming system was like this!" or "it would make a lot more sense if resolution names followed this pattern" or "I think this convention makes a lot of sense, it would be great if the industry used it!" and decide to edit Wikipedia to match the naming conventions they came up with, I suppose imagining that this now makes it "official" or the "real name" or the "industry standard" in some way, or hoping that it will catch on enough in the public enough that they can use it as a justification (i.e. a sort of circular reference).

This is not acceptable. Wikipedia articles should reflect what actually exists in reality, regardless of whether you like it or not. We are not here to propose our own new naming conventions.

According to a Google search, the term "UW10K" has practically zero results outside of this article, wikipedia mirror sites, and a sparse handful of forum posts which likely just skimmed this article or other pages which the same people have edited.

DO NOT edit this page to try to promote the naming conventions that you wish the industry would use. Only the ones that the industry actually uses. GlenwingKyros (talk) 10:22, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

1st, It seems you are quite ignorant about Digital cinematography. Please do read the article you are linking to.

2nd, there is NO 'I wish', here are the established naming conventions :.

Fullscreen / Full frame: 4:3
Widescreen / UHD : 16:9
Ultrawide / 21:9 : 1024:429 (≈2.39:1, ≈21:9)

So, 10240x4320p would be 10K UltraWide resolution (shortened to UW 10K), while 10240x5760p would be 10K UHD resolution, and 10240x7680p would be 10K full frame.

You are just extrapolating new names from patterns. It is no different than when people edit the Graphics display resolution page to change the name of 3840×2160 to "QFHD" because it fits a past pattern, so that must make it the "correct" convention. But it isn't, because no one calls it that. So, is there a widespread use of the term "UW10K" in the industry? Can you provide examples? People actually calling it that?
