Notice from the Portals WikiProject

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Portal updates and additions

See below for fixes that are being performed for this portal. North America1000 20:10, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

As of this post, three areas of the portal are displaying red links, which comprises one-thirds of the portal's present box content as of this post (permanent link):

To correct this, I will be moving article subpage entries listed at Portal:Michigan highways/Articles directly into the main portal page using transclusions, which provides readers with current, up-to-date information that is verbatim to that in articles.

A consensus approving the usage of transclusion templates in portals was formed at this Village Pump discussion, which was closed on 28 December 2019 (UTC).

For the DYK entries and Selected picture content, the easiest means to fix the red links is to perform page moves of the subpages of Portal:Michigan highways/Did you know and Portal:Michigan highways/Pictures using numbered subpages, and using the {{Random portal component}} template in the portal to draw randomly from the subpages.

Additionally, the following suggestion pages are not being used, so links to them have been removed from the portal and these pages have been tagged with the {{Historical}} template.

  •  Working: Portal:Michigan highways/Did you know subpage moves to subpages of the new Portal:Michigan highways/DYK page
  •  Working: Portal:Michigan highways/Pictures subpage moves to subpages of the new Portal:Michigan highways/Selected images page
    • Only a dozen articles were selected. However, there are 189 GAs, 4 A-Class (all of which are also GA by USRD requirements) and 32 FAs plus 5 FLs. That's 230 eligible articles. I apologize if the portal got put on the back burner, but it was intended to eventually highlight every GA or better article and all the FLs in turn, and selecting only the first dozen to be used is a big issue. Don't worry though. All of 2020 will be scheduled here shortly, and later this week, I'll try to get 2021 scheduled as well. Dough4872 will likely be around shortly to work on the DYK sets for the rest of 2020 as well. Imzadi 1979 → 00:23, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Completed work

  • All articles from Portal:Michigan highways/Articles are now listed on the main portal page, with content provided using direct transclusion from the articles. These are all FA- and GA-class articles.
    • @Northamerica1000: please reverse all of these moves and restore the portal. I was about to schedule content for the rest of the year after I got home from work, but now I can't. Imzadi 1979 → 23:53, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
      • Update, all have been moved back except one, which had a bad page move involved. I've tagged a redirect stuck in the way for deletion so that the last move can be reversed. Imzadi 1979 → 00:16, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
