I was actually the one who added the raion borders, so I can definitely make them thinner. However, the reason that the lines are so thick is to distinguish them from the old raion borders (pre-2020) that are recognized by Russia, and are present as thin grey lines on the map. Making the new boundaries thinner would make them harder to distinguish from the old borders. Should I just remove the old boundaries and then make the new ones thinner? I think using the same black line thickness as in the Luhansk Oblast map would be fine. Alternatively, one could make all raion borders thin and gray but make the old borders dashed/dotted. What do you think? Furthermore, it seems like the old Luhansk Oblast raion and city borders are kinda thick and blurry, could they be made 1 px thin aswell? I do like the dashed/dotted idea, but I still think that the new borders should be a different color (maybe a dark grey instead of black?), especially if we make the lines the same thickness like the other map.
The Luhansk map is really quite a mess. I believe it was made by putting a raster image into a raster to vector image converter; that's why the border lines are so thick. I would probably have to start over from scratch on it, which would take a while.
Unfortunately, I had to send my editing computer in for repairs today, so I won't be able to start working on either map until at least Saturday, but I will start as soon as I can; my apologies! Physeters✉ 00:55, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's much better, but sadly I can't test the new version in the detailed map. I tried to purge server cache but it didn't work. Not even the preview refreshed the image.Though I would still want to avoid labels on the Toretsk region borders. Why is that area so messed up in real life? Haha.
I'm curious though about the used widths. What are the widths of the RUS/UKR border, Donetsk/Luhansk Oblast border, new raions border, and finally old raion border? I'm so sorry for not replying sooner, I am just getting to look at my computer for the first time since last night!
The border widths are as follows: .6 for the Border with Russia, .3 for the oblast borders and the new raion borders, and .15 for the old raion borders.
As you said, the cities of oblast significance were abolished, so it makes more sense to have them be dashed.
Also, to answer your question about the Toretsk enclaves, as far as I can tell, it comes down to mostly to the war in the Donbas, though don't quote me on it! Before the war, towns like Toretsk, Pivnichne, New York, etc. operated as suburbs of Horlivka. Horlivka became part of the DPR in 2014, and for eight years and there was no cross-traffic between it and its western suburbs. Toretsk & other nearby towns become more economically tied to Bakhmut, as it was the next closest major town. When Ukraine redrew their raion borders in 2020, they probably put Toretsk and the surrounding villages in Bakhmut Raion for this reason. Physeters✉ 08:49, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Very interesting history. About the line widths, I was thinking about thinning a bit the new raion borders to .225 (75% of current) or .24 so that oblast borders have more importance. What do you think? And finally, I must say you did a great job at removing the dashed lines overlap (I know because I tried to reproduce the result with text edits based on the CSS classes but was plagued with them overlaps).
