SVG Map[edit]

Created the Map of Northeast states with extents (-80.693 , 38.190) x (-66.811 , 48.602). I propose that this replace the existing PNG file. Comments? - DutchTreat (talk) 13:29, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmm1169: I welcome your input on this choice since you created this module. - DutchTreat (talk) 13:34, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
An important difference between the maps is that the former map (in PNG) includes all of Virginia, West Virgina and half of Ohio. The later map (in SVG) does not include these states. When these states are needed, I propose the Module:Location map/data/USA Mid-Atlantic be used. - DutchTreat (talk) 13:43, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The file USA Northeastern.png was created for the module. Creating the module is simpler using a Mercator projection map where the borders can be defined by a simple lat/long. It does include Mid-Atlantic states so I'd be ok if it's renamed USA Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern if that's better. Thanks-Dmm1169 (talk)
I agree that a projection that is equirectangular is the better solution. I support two modules: one for Northeast (zoomed in from the current larger one starting in the midwest) like you created and a second module for the middle Atlantic states. My comment was on the module for USA Northweastern. I prefer the SVG map file. My comments are cross posted at Commons:Graphic Lab/Map workshop since there is a parallel discussion on same topic. Sounds good. Im not familiar with creating SVG map file. Feel free to edit.-Dmm1169 (talk) 20:28, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmm1169: Thank you for the feedback. I'll swap the image file to use the SVG version. Sorry for the delayed response. I didn't see your reply until today. - DutchTreat (talk) 15:31, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New map[edit]

The map looks squashed, any objections to switching this to a non-squashed map like File:USA Northeast (cropped).svg? I put something in the sandbox. Frietjes (talk) 15:21, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I used an equirectangular projection map for ease of defining boundaries for coordinates, but it does distort maps as you get further from the equator (a single lat/long for each side). You're welcome to switch the map to a different projection as long as you're willing to put in the boundary equations. Thanks - Dmm1169 (talk) 18:29, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
okay, now done. Frietjes (talk) 22:20, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! Thanks - Dmm1169 (talk) 02:09, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
