False positives?[edit]

@Nardog and Gonnym: I just checked the first three entries on Category:Articles using Infobox film with incorrectly placed links (01 January, 2B (film), and 2BR02B: To Be or Naught to Be) and none of them have the swapped parameters issue; all three contain duplicate wikilinks between the parameters but no "unlinked followed by wikilinked" content. I'm not seeing anything in any of the MOS- or infobox-related pages that indicates that we cannot or should not have the same link twice in an IB (though obviously I'm fine being wrong); should these instances be included in this tracking category? Did not write the code but I'll comment on the issue. It's common in infoboxes (at least in the film and television ones) not to link the same person more than once and only link first occurrence. Other than WP:REPEATLINK, I'm not sure if this is backed by any MoS or other consensus, but that's generally what happens. Gonnym (talk) 16:52, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed this. Avoidance of repeated links in infoboxes is indeed established practice in most articles that are frequently read/watched/edited as far as I'm aware, and I think it's implied in the section Gonnym linked to (which I even brought up as the justification for the RfC and bot operation). That said, if we're going to eliminate links in the wrong order, it would make little sense if we didn't remove all repeated links in the infoboxes. So I'm fine with not removing repeated links and/or narrowing the condition on line 19 to exclude links. Nardog (talk) 16:11, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
All good, just changes my if statements. Primefac (talk) 16:13, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Will the bot rearrange the order of parameters to match the output? I really think it should (in the articles where it's moving links, of course). Nardog (talk) 16:17, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Potentially, though it's never been something that I was really interested in pursuing given the general annoyance of dealing with sorting key-value pairs. Primefac (talk) 16:20, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, so the bot is NOT going to operate on pages like the three you mentioned, correct? Nardog (talk) 16:37, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I'm trying to figure out in this conversation. Primefac (talk) 16:44, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And I say I'm fine with it (viz. not altering them), because otherwise it could result in inconsistency if we eliminated duplicate links in just the parameters affected by the order change. Nardog (talk) 16:51, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
