The help link[edit]

{{editprotected}}

Hi, this new link is starting to irritate me. It should be piped to just say Help; the namespace is confusing for people who it's aimed at. Plus it's so small and out of the way, will people actually notice and use it? – How do you turn this on (talk) 21:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you read the discussion that lead to the addition of this link: MediaWiki talk:Sp-contributions-footer#Link to help?. And then repeat your comment over at that page, since more people are watching that page. I disabled your editprotected request for now, so we can discuss this over at that page.

Topicon class[edit]

{{editprotected}}

Using <div class="topicon"> instead of the <span> should put the link back in the correct place. See WP:Village pump (technical)/Archive 50#Topicons. Unless the link was always below the header line and I just never noticed it before? OrangeDog (talkedits) 03:08, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

☒N Not done - The link was always below the header line. As you can see in the history of this MediaWiki message.

You wouldn't be able to tell by the history, as things move around when announcement banners are added. Of course, I'm quite willing to accept that I'm wrong anyway. OrangeDog (talkedits) 22:35, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yeah, you are right, one can't really tell by the history of this page. Since as you pointed out, lately things up there have been moving around due to the Wikimedia foundation announcements etc. Luckily it seems the things we put below the header line are not affected. The coordinates and this help message (they use the same class for their placement) have been neatly below the header line all the time.
Oh, and I prefer to have this help message below the header line, since I think it looks better, especially for those of us who use tools and gadgets that put extra stuff above the header line. It's pretty crowded up there for some of us.

Clash avoidance[edit]

{{editprotected}} Tried bringing this up at the pump but no-one wanted to help. To clarify, the text is unreadable on most non-widescreen displays using default text sizes. I would guess a solution would be to float this component in a div, but have no idea how to sandbox this, as the other component is script-generated. It would also appear that this component is positioned by another script that uses the "coordinates" id. OrangeDog (talk • edits) 20:01, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, can't make the edit unless you know specifically what needs to be done.  Skomorokh, barbarian  06:27, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Usage[edit]

When does this message appear? Rd232 talk 18:02, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any time you view a Special:Contributions page. OrangeDog (τ • ε) 18:14, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
got it. Bit small maybe. Rd232 talk 18:35, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Class change: coordinates → topicon[edit]

I've changed the class from coordinates to topicon, so the link sits above the page title. This is because the coordinates-style link, which sat below the page title horizontal rule, clashed with the advanced utility links beside "For <user>".

For example, while logged into my account and viewing my own contributions, I had this very long list of links displaying:

User contributions

For AGK (talk | block | block log | suppressed user contributions | uploads | logs | deleted user contributions | user rights management | mass delete | oversighted contribs | filter log | check user IP addresses | recent user checks)

The "Help:User contributions" link was superimposed onto the right-hand side of the lines for these links, meaning some links were unclickable. The whole problem is solved now that the help link displays elsewhere on the page. Feel free to tweak further. AGK [•] 23:43, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
