I just reverted the version using {{urlencode}} as it does not appear to be stable. Example page: [1] . — xaosflux Talk 14:32, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What the hell, brion told me he fixed that (User talk:Brion VIBBER#re: changes to link syntax behavior). Anyway the current version is broken for anybody who has a space in their name. In fact, I seem to remember testing it after making the change, and it worked then. — May. 28, '06 [19:43] <freak|talk>
Counter-example page: [2]. — Jun. 2, '06 [04:03] <freak|talk>
Yep, see the error there. Where is the value for $1 being generated for this page, perhaps the encoding can be changed at the source? — xaosflux Talk 04:24, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on whether or not you use underscores on the block screen. The following links both block the same user:

But one uses plus signs, which change to spaces in rendering (use %2B for a literal "+"), and the other uses underscores. {{urlencode:}} works for template parameters, see Template:Admin, e.g., but not for mediawiki-space parameters such as $1, which are encoded as %241 before the parameter is even evaluated. Apparently brion fixed this for at least a few hours, but that change got reverted back because it broke something else. — Jun. 2, '06 [04:39] <freak|talk>

Would it be useful to change the boilerplate on MediaWiki:Blockiptext to suggest that we use underscores? It's a band-aid, but might help until a bugfix. — xaosflux Talk 04:44, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't be worth it, no. It's quicker (in the event that the block log link is broken) to click on the contributions page, then go to the block log from there, than it is to change spaces to underscores in a long name such as:
Jun. 2, '06 [06:47] <freak|talk>

So where do we go from here? In the traditional {{userlinks}} template we do use {{urlencode}} to fix the spaces in the name so that it doesn't create the nonfunctional external block log link. Apparently there's some bugs with using that here? How bad were the bugs? Are there any alternatives? --Cyde Weys 20:20, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone finds out, please leave a note over at MediaWiki_talk:Linkshere, having issues with spaces in titles breaking links too. — xaosflux Talk 01:53, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add link to new user log?[edit]

J Di just added a link to AIAV. Why not add a link to the new user log as well since a lot of sysops monitor the log directly for new accounts with offensive usernames? Kavadi carrier 09:46, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. I've added it. JDtalk 10:08, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would it make sense to add a link to this in the text, or should we wait until it's a little more established? It might be a good way to get the word out there. – Riana 09:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be added, it can always be removed if the page does not work out. I am going to be bold and put it in. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 20:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please add a link to Special:Nuke probably like [[Special:Nuke/$1]] in the toolbar, so admins can quickly delete all pages made by a banned user, etc. Ladsgroupoverleg 06:43, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
