Lock Upp is the first season of Indian reality competition television series, Lock Upp: Badass Jail, Atyaachari Khel!. Hosted by Kangana Ranaut, it premiered on ALTBalaji and MX Player from 27 February 2022. The Grand Finale or Badass Finale of the show was held on 7 May 2022 where Munawar Faruqui emerged as the winner while Payal Rohatgi was announced as the Runner-up.

Concept

Nineteen contestants called Inmates who were accused in the outside world fought it out in jail to earn every basic necessity and win the heart of the host Kangana Ranaut and audience by performing tasks and showcasing their personalities. Karan Kundrra was introduced as Jailor for the entire season. Tejasswi Prakash entered as the Warden for the final lockout and grand finale. After 70 days, the contestant with the highest votes walks away with freedom and the trophy of Lock Upp: Badass Jail, Atyaachari Khel!.

Production and marketing

On 2 February 2022, Ekta Kapoor teased the show on her social media handles. Kapoor described the show as the biggest and the most fearless reality show. On 3 February 2022, In a press conference Kapoor revealed the title of the show, Lock Upp: Badass Jail, Atyaachari Khel! and the host, Kangana Ranaut. On 10 February 2022, Kapoor unveiled the premiere date 27 February 2022. On 11 February 2022, the teaser and on 16 February 2022, the trailer was released both featuring Ranaut. Five contestants were revealed before the premiere of the show; In chronological order they are, Nisha Rawal, Munawar Faruqui, Poonam Pandey, Babita Phogat, and Karanvir Bohra.

Viewership

On 2 March 2022, It was reported that the show garnered 15 million views within 48 hours of its release. On 19 March 2022, the show crossed 100 million views within 19 days of its release, becoming one of the most-watched reality shows on a OTT platform. On 31 March 2022, the show surpassed 200 million views. On 16 April 2022, the show surpassed 300 million views.

Later, they went to a party together. She also said that none of her friends, family or close member knows about it and she won't know how will her parents react to it.

	Day 18	Karanvir	Karanvir in a conversation with Saisha Shinde, Babita Phogat, and Sara Khan said "From 2015 to right now, mai jo kaam leta hu wo chukane ke liye (Since 2015, whatever work I accept it's to pay off that debt). I feel so sorry for myself and my family- what am I giving them. Agar meri jagah koi aur hota to (if someone else was in my position), he would have committed suicide. I am down in the worst debt of my life. Mai dhas chuka hu, waisa waala, sar bhi bahar, waisa nahi hai. (I am deep in massive debt)." "I have had three-four cases on me, which have gone, for not paying the money back." He added, "For me, this show is a lifeline".

Week 4	Day 28	Payal	Payal made a big disclosure in front of Kangana and said that "I did vashikaran to go ahead in my career. Someone from Delhi told me to take anything of the person you are thinking about, and then I will get you worshiped on the banks of the Ganges. Then when I do this you think about that person. Payal further clarified that none of these things worked for her. But there was a fear that sometime I should say these things in front of someone, my mother would come to know. Make fun of me in front of the world."
Week 5	Day 36	Azma	Azma revealed that she was the sole earner of her family and since she comes from a lower middle-class family, they couldn't afford the expenses with the meagre salary she used to earn thud via a dating app, she used to probe several rich sugar daddies and other men and lures them to talk to her over call and messages and in return, she took ₹4-₹5 million rupees in exchange as a scam so as to help her aunt who had cancer and her parents who are diabetic. Her parents were aware that she earns via social media but they haven't introduced the passage of scamming money from several people online.
Week 6	Day 42	Munawar	A blurry picture of a woman with a baby assumed to be the wife and child of Munawar was shown. Kangana asked him about it however Munawar declined to talk about it and said there are already court trials going on related to it.
		Mandana	Mandana Karimi reveals she had an abortion after having a 'planned pregnancy' when she was in a secret relationship with an 'ace director'. She kept the relationship secret because she was not yet divorced.
Week 7	Day 49	Ali	He said: "I always wanted to get married and settle down. I got into an arranged marriage in 2016. In December 2021, we got separated. The girl I got into an arranged marriage with, belonged to an orthodox family. I began DJ-ing in 2015. A career in nightlife, extreme exposure in concerts – it is a very difficult industry for a Muslim to be in."
		Munawar	Munawar said, "It was the January of 2007. Sometime around 7 am, my grandmother, woke me up and said that something has happened to my mother. 'We had to take her to the hospital.' When I reached the hospital they were bringing my mother out of the emergency ward. She was screaming and I was holding her hand. There was a moment when ... Doctors talked among themselves and told me to leave her hand. I still cannot let that go."
Week 8	Day 56		He said: "I was six years old and I was sexually assaulted for several years, till the time that I was an 11-year-old boy. I was sexually assaulted at that time. They were my relatives, two of them and it continued for 4-5 years. I would not understand at the time. It was a close family. It went on for 3-4 years and once it got extreme and then they realised they should stop it." He added, "I have never shared this with anyone as I have to face them, and they have to face the family as well. I once felt my dad got to know about it but he scolded me a lot. Perhaps he felt the same, as I did, that this is not something that should come out in the open."
Week 9	Day 63	Payal	She said: "There was this love angle, which was very detrimental in my personal life. Got heavily into drinking. I used to drink for 48 hours. I used to be on prescribed drugs. I used to be suicidal. I have tried to cut my hands." She broke down, adding that often she would beg the other person to come back.
		Saisha	She said: "I have never spoken about this before. There is this one favourite designer of mine. When I met him, I was enamoured by him. He called me to his hotel room. I hugged him, and of course, we had sex. He did that with 7-8 boys."
		Anjali	She said: "I studied with my brother who was very protective and would make sure I do not talk to boys etc. So, I once bunked tuitions when I was in Class XI and went to a nearby cafe with my batchmates. One of the friends of my brother saw me and told him that I was there. My brother walked up to me and slapped me right there, in front of everyone. I started crying and urged him to not tell my papa. But he told him, and they scolded me a lot. Papa also slapped me and locked me inside a room, declaring that I must not step out of the house. I then drank phenyl and closed the door. My brother had to break it open."
Week 10	Day 64	Saisha	She said: "I just remembered that I gave them five secrets and the last one was that I was in a throuple. I was in a relationship with a boyfriend and a girlfriend and I was the queen. They loved me more than they loved each other. This was before I became Saisha. After becoming Saisha, I have not explored enough. There are so many insecurities - whether I can be in front of people without makeup. Without make-up, certain masculinity is still there."

Home-cooked food and a letter from his sister, however, he would have to nominate one member of his (orange) team. 3. A power card that he could use once during the game if he felt that the audience couldn't save him through nominations but he had to transfer one member to the other team, with Karan Kundrra revealing the other member's name! Munawar opted for homemade food and his sister's letter, eventually nominating his best friend Karanvir Bohra from his team.
Week 3	Day 19		Karanvir	In 'Jhol Ghar' he was offered to choose either, 1. Double Power Card, Used to file charge sheet against one inmate and to immune one inmate from charge sheet. 2. Access of Spa by sending three inmates from his team to dungeon area for a night. 3. To spend quality time with his wife and kids by locking out one safe 'qaidi' (Inmate) from the jail. He accepted the offer and hence Sidharth was Locked out.
Week 4	Day 26		Payal	In 'Jhol Ghar' she was offered to choose either, 1. Unlimited supply of fast food, but had to give up all the salt from the house. 2. Manicure session, but will only have one bathroom and 1 shower for the entire house.
			Saisha	In 'Jhol Ghar' she was offered to choose either, 1. A bottle of Coffee along with Coffee machine, but the rest of their block mates will have to sleep in the yard area. 2. A bottle of Coffee along with Coffee machine, but will choose any 3 inmates to sleep in the yard area. She accepted the offer and choose Azma, Nisha & Payal.
			Ali	In 'Jhol Ghar' he was offered, A phone call at home, but will have to ban one of their block mate not to get a chance to take part in 'Jhol Ghar' offers. He accepted the offer and chose Payal.
			Mandana	In 'Jhol Ghar' she was offered, Power Card to save 1 inmate from this week's chargesheet in exchange of 1 inmate from the other block in the chargesheet, Also had to put 2 inmates from their block & 1 inmate from the other block in next week's chargesheet. She accepted the offer and filed chargesheet against Shivam. Also nominating Azma and Payal from her block along with Karanvir for next week chargesheet.
Week 5	Day 35		Anjali	Kangana offered, 1. Power Card to save 1 inmate from this week's chargesheet in exchange of 1 inmate from the other block in the chargesheet that she declined. 2. She was given an opportunity to bring back Saisha in her block with exchange of sending Karanvir Bohra to Other block. 3. She had choice to bring both in blue team in exchange of sending Munawar Faruqui to Orange block. Anjali chose second temptation sending Karanvir to orange block.
Week 6	Day 40		Zeeshan	Temptation: Power Card to save 1 nominee from their block and file chargesheet against 1 safe inmate from the other block And the other block have to mutually decide to nominate 1 more inmate. Repercussion: 1. Double Trouble - had to get 2 more repercussions. 2. Put 1 inmate of their block in chains (shackals) for a day. He choose Payal. 3. Choose 1 nominee to be not be eligible to be saved by the inmates on Judgement Day. He choose Shivam.
			Payal	Temptation: Personal Helper to do anything she wants. She choose Zeeshan. Repercussion: Put 1 inmate from each block in the smallest cell in Lock Upp. She choose Azma from other block and Mandana from her block.
			Shivam	Temptation: Video message from home. Repercussion: Hand-over the mini fridge to the other block.
			Mandana	Temptation: Blank card (No temptation). Repercussion: Swap Anjali from Blue block to Orange block and Payal from Orange block to Blue block.
Week 7	Day 47		Munawar	Temptation: Exclusive chef to cook whatever he demands and ingredients of his choice. He chose Saisha. Temptation: Any temptation of his choice. Kangana Ranaut rakes the stage to talk about the show and the concept. She says that in her jail, it would not matter if the contestant is a star kid, influential politician or a famous business person – all that matters is the person needs to be controversial. Kangana also introduces the media people who will screen the Lock Upp contestants and put them up on a media trial. She then introduces the Lock Upp contestant.
2	"Aaj Kaun Hoga Nominate?"	28 February 2022 (2022-02-28)
In the first nominations, The inmates nominate any two other inmates. Payal Rohatgi and Anjali Arora seem to be distraught by the lack of amenities given inside the house. They put forward their dissent and urge the jailer to give them at least the necessities. Payal puts forward the issue that the house has no access to sunlight or any form of the external environment. She explains, on camera, how she has been to a real Lock Upp and even there the environment is friendly with the view of trees and sunlight.
3	"Ab Qaidi Layenge Kranti"	1 March 2022 (2022-03-01)
The contestants stage a protest and decide to go on a hunger strike if they are not provided with the basic amenities in the house. Babita requests the jailer to provide her with warm water as she has an issue with her legs and needs it for physio. Nisha Rawal, Sara Khan, Saisha, and others complain that they are not provided with their innerwear. Poonam Pandey complained of not having enough food supply as she needs her energy for her low BP. Even Anjali Arora complains of not having her makeup sent. To this, Munawar Farouqi comments that they are all locked up in jail and not a five-star hotel where all their whims and fancies will be catered to. Will the jailer take action against the contestants' mutiny?
4	"Jail Mein Jhagada"	2 March 2022 (2022-03-02)
The day begins with the noisy alarm from the jailer which makes the inmates wake up in frustration. Later, in the day the contestants discuss the task that took place on the previous day. Poonam Pandey, Nisha Rawal, and Saisha also discuss their controversies which made them a part of the show. Poonam and Nisha talk about their abusive relationships and the consequences that they had to face for it while Saisha talks about the various unsolicited advice that was given to her before she undertook the gender reconstruction surgery. Later, the jailer announces that since the right block had won the task on the previous day they will be given all the things they had asked for. Everything rejoices to hear this and rushes to get their belongings. However, Payal had asked for sunlight which does not seem to be in sight yet.
5	"Kya Yeh Ek Tarfa Pyaar Hai?"	3 March 2022 (2022-03-03)
Sara wakes up to find the heart that Shivam made for her in the night. She tells him that she had seen it in the night as well and compliments him. Shivam continues to flirt with Sara which makes her think that he is putting up an act and that he has been told to play a certain part. This upsets Shivam and he breaks down crying. Karan, Saisha, and others come to console him but he cries inconsolably. Sara also tries to calm him down and apologizes for assuming that he is putting up an act. Shivam tells her that he is like that and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Sara tells everyone that she finds it a little childish that Shivam says he has fallen in love with her in just 2 days. Where is this relationship headed? Will this remain a one-sided love or will Sara cave in and develop feelings for Shivam?
6	"Badass Jail Ka Badass Jailor"	4 March 2022 (2022-03-04)
The jailer Karan Kundrra is in jail and he had a word with the contestants and try to explain to them that it's badass jail so they need to survive like this only. Where contestants discuss yesterday's task. Where jailer called Sara in a jhol ghar and he offered favorite food options to Sara where she got emotional but at last he made her week by showing her mother and she wanted to meet her. But for this repercussion will be faced by the other contestants. Munawar talks about his jail experience and what problems he faced.
7	"Queen Ne Li Sabki Class"	5 March 2022 (2022-03-05)
Where queen Kangana Ranaut talks about the reality of the jail what they need to face and tries to show them the reality of Lock Upp. A group discussion has been held yesterday where contestants talk about their secrets and got emotional. While the queen has scolded everyone that it's a jail, not some luxurious resort. Where they need to stop complaining and live like that. A task has been given to nominated contestants. Who will be nominated this week?
8	"Who revealed Their secrets?"	6 March 2022 (2022-03-06)
The queen grills the contestants and tries to show the reality of this badass jail. Where nominated contents Swami, Anjali, and Siddharth are ordered to go to the benakab zone. While they need to confess their secret in front of the public and save themselves from nomination. Where Anjali reveals his secret and saved her from nomination. Where the queen questions Siddharth about his inactiveness post fighting with Shivam. Swami has been evicted from the show and said goodbye to the teammates.
9	"Akal Badi Ya Brains"	7 March 2022 (2022-03-07)
The drama begins with a day. Saisha tells their team that doesn't trust the red team as they cheat with them. Sara cleared Shivam it's only friendship nothing else which will be interesting to watch that how deep this friendship will go?
