I preferred the color scheme used to date. Suddenly making the whole map of Libya green is wrong in this context, as green is the color favored by Qadhafi, (e.g. Green Book , green this , green that, etc.). The previous approach, whatever its faults, was better. Someone said that the colors distorted the population density, but this is not a demographic map so much as it is a political map. Yes, the coastal areas are the most important. However, nothing in the old order of things disturbed that notion.

Colour-Blind Readers having trouble with this map

A few colourblind readers on the main article's talk page have complained that they cannot tell who controls what because of the colours running together for them. I have also been thinking about this issue. I, myself, am not the pro with svg's (I mostly do raster graphics), so I hope someone can change the colors for those who have encountered difficulty viewing the map.

Cartogram

I've just uploaded this population-based cartogram based on the data from this map and news reports. How would you folks feel about using it (or something like it) in the infobox? -- AndySimpson ^talk? 13:51, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Due to Libya's irregular population distribution (most people live in cities by the coast), I do not think it would be appropriate to use paint-bucket fill to represent controlled "territory", because that would mislead viewers to believe that there is some sort of significance in that. It would certainly be fine to have the map somewhere in the article, but not in the infobox, especially because of its irregular projection. --Interchange88 ☢ 19:26, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

well, the cartogram is a nice addition to this map, it isn't supposed to replace it. I don't think the cartogram is suitable for the article's infobox, but it should certainly appear somewhere in the article.

As for the indication of city sizes in this map, I really think it's a nice touch, well done. Better than most newspaper maps I have seen. --dab (𒁳) 19:33, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Misurata in dispute

It appears Misurata (Misrata) is currently in dispute, with a major offensive attempting to recapture the city for Gaddafi. I think the map should be updated to reflect the disputed status of Misurata. -Kudzu1 (talk) 00:00, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Colorize?

Yeah you probably really only have control in the cities anyway and then each side's forces going hitherto and fro all over the place. Zawiya is now controlled by anti-gaddafi forces

Background

This may seem rather irrelevant, but personally I would consider that instead of a grey background, there should be a beige one. This would enhance contrast and make it a little easier on the eyes. Any thoughts? --Interchange88 ☢ 20:14, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

I tried this but if you want to use a lighter colour then we will have to change the colour of the provincial dividions and the background since they are both light. Another option would be using dark beige/brown like the one in the arabic language wiki. --Rafy talk 20:45, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Missing Key translation, and it's a biggy

Shouldn't there be an Arabic key? I can get a Hebrew key written up by tomorrow (though most Israelis know enough English), but to not have this map with an arabic key on its file page doesn't make sense. TheArchaeologist Say Herro 06:39, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Ajdabiya is under Gaddafi's control. :) Change the map immediately.
