Billy (born April 25, 1989) is a R&B artist known for his production, songwritting and artistry
Biography[edit]
William Charles Jordan was born in Hilltop, Tacoma, Washington Raised in a closely-knit community, the surrounding ecosystem included churches, schools, and corner stores in close proximity. William is one of six siblings, emerging from a Christian background where his father served as a preacher and his mother as an educator, now a therapist.
Being a preacher's kid meant frequent involvement in the church for Jordan, who began playing the drums at the young age of 7. This early engagement with rhythm continued as he joined the Drum Corps at Curtis High School. His participation in these musical activities propelled him into a creative trajectory, involving singing and songwriting in various settings, including church, school, and local bands.
Jordan's ambition, coupled with the support of family, friends, and mentors, culminated in his earning of his first Multi-Platinum record at the age of 21. This accomplishment enabled him to transition into a full-time creative, solidifying his commitment to a career in the music industry.[2]
Career[edit]
Jordan embarked on his music career in 2010 while serving as an engineer and producer at Platinum Reign. Despite having just barley graduated from high school without pursuing further education, a pivotal moment arose when he received a life-changing phone call from his daughter's mother, revealing their impending parenthood. Encouraged to persist in his musical passion, this transformative moment fueled the formation of a formidable writers' team with Clemm Rishad.
Under the teams guidance, this collaborative effort bore fruit with the creation of a compelling hook for the single "FLY," ultimately featured on Nicki Minaj's acclaimed album, Pink Friday. The albums success helped Will gain recogniton from industry heads and land a position as a songwriter on with RondorUMG.[2]
This milestone marked the inception of Will's 12-year professional journey and a 22-year commitment to creative pursuits.
Songwriting and production[edit]
Jordan embarked on his career as a songwriter, initiating his journey at SKY MOVEMENT LLC, a venture founded by Clemm Rishad and Richard Penton. Within this creative incubator, he enjoyed the flexibility and adaptability to explore and nurture his musical abilities. The supportive environment extended to Platinum Reign, a facility and label overseen by Nudie Henderson, with steadfast backing from local peers such as Darryl Crews, both Tacoma natives. It was within this dynamic that Jordan assumed the role of Studio Manager, a position he held for a decade, seamlessly blending his passion with operational expertise.
As Studio Manager, Jordan also served as a sound engineer and producer, a role that proved rewarding as he later collaborated with popular artists, including Travis Scott, 9th Wonder, JR Rotem, Benny the Butcher, David Banner, Skylar Grey, Problem, and Katryanda. He attributes much of his style, inspiration, and influences to legends such as Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Kanye West, Pharrell, 9th Wonder, Dre & Vidal, Rocwilder, and Battle Cat.
His ability to navigate both the creative and operational aspects showcased his comprehensive understanding of the intricacies, particularly in the R&B, Pop, and Hip Hop worlds. This valuable experience, coupled with his unwavering commitment to craft development, paved the way for Jordan to join Universal Music Publishing, where he dedicated another fruitful decade to the industry. Although there was an opportunity for him in an artist brand, the lack of legal counsel and proper advisory unfortunately led to the downfall of this opportunity.
Artistry[edit]
Will's career was on the rise, evident in the interest he garnered from Atlantic,Columbia, Def Jam Records, and RCA a year after the success of "Fly." A notable highlight among his meetings with major label executives was the encounter with Julie Pilate, a pivotal figure who secured him a spot in one of his breakthrough moments by offering an opportunity to perform at the Wango Tango Festival in California.
This marked another milestone and achievement for Wills career as he ventured into new territory as a performing artist.
In 2011, during multiple trips to Los Angeles for collaborations with songwriters and producers, one of Jordan's works caught h the attention of A&R Tommy Rotem from Beluga Heights Records. This initial connection evolved into a long-term relationship, In 2012,he spent seven months immersed in Los Angeles, collaborating with JR Rotem and his brother, A&R Tommy Rotem, further refining his songwriting and finding his unique voice. Collaborating closely with Rotem, Jordan played a key role in the success of Beluga, known for signing major artists such as Sean Kingston, Jason Derulo, IYAZ, and Mann.
Venturing into new pathways as an independent artist, Will prioritized authenticity and creativity over commercial recognition. He continued to release singles and independent projects, meticulously cataloged in chronological order within his discography. In his pursuit of rebranding, Will introduced a new persona, Billy, inspired by music influences such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Jay Z. His collaboration with E Jones, known for his work with Rock Nation on the project Be Good, served as an introduction to these influences, evident in later works like "Control" and "Party All The Time."[3] Some of his most popular releases include "In My Feelings," "Back To Me," and the renowned "Slip and Fall.Notably, his single "Slip and Fall" earned recognition from music legend Anita Baker on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Other names to include Ill Will, Will Jordan, W.Jordan, and underneath the creative umbrella called ASL formed in collaboration and partnership developed with his associate Relle.
