Draft:Timmy Failure (Book Series)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Timmy Failure is a New York Times bestselling book series authored and illustrated by cartoonist Stephan Pastis, creator of the comic strip "Pearls Before Swine" and the book series "Trubble Town." The series chronicles the life of a child detective, the eponymous Timmy Failure. The first book, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made, was published in 2015; the most recent book, Timmy Failure: Zero To Hero, was published in 2020 and is a prequel to the series. The books series inspired the Disney+ movie, which is largely based on Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. Each book is typically 30-60 chapters long, with chapter titles often being a play on words that relates in some way to the chapter and a pop culture (e.g., Chapter 19 of Mistakes Were Made, is titled "The Answer My Friend is Blowing on My Ear" in reference to the Bob Dylan song, "The Answer My Friend Is Blowing in the Wind"). Although ostensibly a children's book series, the chapters are titled in a way that adults reading the books will get the references.[1] For example, several chapters are based on Bob Dylan songs, such as Chapter 19 of Mistakes Were Made: "The Answer My Friend Is Blowing on My Ear."[1]

When discussing the impact of his daily comic strip on his writing style, Pastis noted that the "forced economy" of a short comic strip caused him to realize the value of words, which helped him in crafting his novel.[1]
