The Municipal Theatre of Chillán is a venue located in the Chilean city of Chillán. It is part of the set of Municipal Buildings of Chillán, located in Dieciocho de septiembre street corner Constitución street, next to the Extension Centre of the Universidad del Bío-Bío and in front of the Plaza de armas of Chillán..[1]

History[edit]

The first municipal theatre of Chillán was built during the administration of José María Sepúlveda Bustos.[2].[3]In 1908, Claudio Arrau had his first piano concert, at the age of five, and was thus considered a child prodigy.[4]

In 1938, Gabriela Mistral was honoured in the theatre, in the presence of Mayor Tapia Mendoza,[5] the 9th Infantry Regiment "Chillán".[5] and teachers together with her students from the Liceo de Niñas and the Liceo de Hombres de Chillán, among them, the teacher Nicanor Parra who read a poem to the future Literature Nobel Prize winner..[5]

The theatre has its foundations, foundations, load-bearing walls and pillars made of reinforced concrete,,[6] and an unfilled metal partition wall.[6] The floor is made of concrete slabs, while the roof has metal trusses with a metal cover[6] . On the outside, the paving is concrete and the walls are clad in cement.[6] In other respects, the modern building is 22.19 metres high, has four storeys and 986 m² of floor space.[6]
