• Clement of Rome is the episcopal of Serdica (Modern day sofia), after which he becomes one of the first roman popes.
• Emperor Aurelian – An amazing roman emperor, „Restorer of the world“, is born in Serdica on september 9th 214 AD
• Empress Elena – mother of "The baptist of the world" – emperor Constantine the Great. In Jerusalem she was investigating the location of the Calvary she ordered several excavations there and discovered the Empty tomb and the True Cross. She was born in Serdica in 250 and lived there for a few years.
• Emperor Galerius – Who stopped the killings of christians in the Roman Empire, who first acknoleged Christianity the right as a legal religion with the Edict of Serdica в 311 . Was born, lived and died in Serdica, because of the huge similarity between the Church of Saint George with his church of Saint George in Thessaloniki, Its possible it was a part of his palace complex in Serdica.
• Emperor Saint Constantine the Great - Roman Emperor, „The baptist of the world“, is born in the nearby Niš, for a long time control the empire from Serdica, he supposedly stated „Serdica is my Rome“, his palace was the Constantine district.
• Saint John of Rila – Patron saint of Bulgaria, He spends the first years of his hermitage in Serdica, Imidietly after his passing his remains are moved to the „Church of Saint George“ and for centuries they remain there until their moving to Veliko Tarnovo after the independence of Bulgaria from the Byzantine Empire; they remained there until the XV century. when they were festively moved to the Rila Monastery.
• Samuel of Bulgaria – son of the mayor of Sofia Komes Nicholas, its plausable that he was born in Sofia according to recovered sources, well knows for his millitary victories. He causes one of the most crushing defeats, which a byzantine emperor has suffered from Bulgaria, comparable with the defeat of Nikifor I to khan Krum, namely in the defense of Sofia at the Battle of the Gates of Trajan on 17 august 986 AD.
• Patriarch Damian of Bulgaria – After the conquest of Veliki Preslav in 971 AD by Ioan Cimiski he escapes to Sofia and de facto establishes Sofia as the seat of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church until he is moved into the new Bulgarian capital of Ohrid.
• Tsar Ivan Vladislav – Son of the brother of Samuel of Bulgaria – Aron, is born and grew up in Sofia.
• Botko the Voivode– Ruler of Sofia, Colleague of tsar Petar Delyan in his battle to retake control of Bulgaria, renouncing the byzantine rule of Sofia and defended the city from the Byzantines in 1041 AD.
• Sebastokrator Alexandar  – Brother of tsar Ivan Asen II, For a long time he lived and ruled western Bulgaria.
• Sebastocrator Kaloyan – son of Sebastokrator Aleksandar, he built the Boyan church, a landmark from the european Proto-Renaissance. From the medieval era to the Ottoman rule the distrrict, where his urban residence was located was called '"Kaloyanska Mahallah" today the name has survived in the forms of " Kaloyan street" next to the reisdence of the Bulgarian patriarch named " Tsar Kaloyan" after the independence of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.
• Stefan Milutin – Serbian saint, king of Serbia, by his request he is buried in Sofia. His relics are first kept at the „Church of Saint George“, afterwards they are moved to the „Saint Nedelya Church“, and because of that the church is also known as „Saint King“, for a short amount of time, in order for them to not be stolen by the Ottomans, they are hidden in the Gornobanski Monastery "st.st.Cyril and Methodius" and when the treath of such an action goes away they are returned to the St. Nedelya Church where they are located to this day.
