Draft:Social Work in India

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Social work is a noble profession that aims to improve the well-being of individuals, groups, and communities, especially those who are marginalized, oppressed, or vulnerable.[1]

Social work in India has a long and rich history, dating back to ancient times when various religious and social movements advocated for social justice, equality, and human rights.[citation needed]

History[edit]

The history of social work in India can be divided into three phases: pre-professional, professional, and post-professional.[citation needed]

The pre-professional phase of social work in India was characterized by religious and philanthropic activities aimed at providing relief to the needy and the oppressed. The professional phase began with the establishment of the first school of social work in 1936 and the recognition of social work as a discipline and a profession.[citation needed] The post-professional phase is marked by the emergence of new challenges and opportunities for social work in the context of globalization, social movements, and human rights.[2]
