Sailen Dasgupta (1920 – July 10, 2021) was an Indian political figure and a prominent leader associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and the Left Front in West Bengal. [1] Born in Barisal, Bengal, Dasgupta initially engaged with the Anushilan Samiti before embracing Marxist ideology and dedicating himself to the Communist cause.

He began his political career as a full-time worker for the CPI(M), augmenting his income through various jobs while emphasizing self-education in Marxist theory and organizational principles. Following the CPI(M)'s split in 1964, Dasgupta ascended within the party's hierarchy.

In West Bengal, Dasgupta played a pivotal role in organizing and consolidating the CPI(M) and the Left Front, significantly impacting their growth and influence in the region. Known for his accessibility, he demonstrated concern for grassroots party members.

Dasgupta's death in 2021 marked the conclusion of a chapter in India's Left movement, leaving a legacy within the CPI(M) and the broader political landscape, particularly in shaping the Left Front's narrative in West Bengal.
