Rohilla is a clan, caste (family) or group of Rajputs who were the rulers and founders of Kathehar-Rohilkhand. In medieval India, many Rajput warriors were decorated with the title of Rohila. Their descendants are still found in Rohila families.

Rohilla Title - brave, indomitable - courageous, expert in special warfare arts, high elite commanders, and feudal lords were decorated with ad-hoc titles according to their qualities, Kshatriya heroes - like - Rawat - Maharawat, Rana, Ruhela, Thakur.  , Negi, Rawal, Rahkwal, Rohilla, Samralchhand, Lakhmir,(Hero of one lakh) etc.  On this basis, their descendants are also found in all the gotras (Kshatriyas) till today.

Rohila-Rajput since ancient times, border-province, central country (Ganga-Doab of Yamuna), Punjab, Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Central Have been ruling the state. While the Muslim-Rohilla Empire Established in the eighteenth century after Islamic pressure.

Rohilkhand was ruled by Rohila Rajputs from 1702 to 1720 AD. Whose capital was Bareilly.

"Raja Indragiri", the great ruler of Rohila Rajputs, built a fort in Saharanpur on the western border of Rohilkhand, which is called "Ancient Rohila Fort". Rohilkhand was taken under control by the British in 1801 AD. This ancient Rohila fort, built by Hindu Rohila-rajputras, was converted into a prison between 1806 and 1857. Today, the district jail of Saharanpur is located in this ancient Rohila fort.

"Saharan" is a clan of Rajputs which is found among Rohila Rajputs. This is a branch of the Surya dynasty which started from the descendants of Takshak, son of King Bharat.

At the time of Firoz Tughlaq's invasion, the king of "Thanesar" (presently located in Haryana) was "Saharan".During the time of slave dynasty in Delhi, the capital of Rohilkhand "Rampur" was ruled by Raja Ranveer Singh Kathehariya (descendant of Kathi Kom, Nikumbh dynasty, Suryavansh Kathganas displaced from Katha of Ravi river). This Rohilla king Ranveer Singh had defeated Tughlaq's commander Naseeruddin Changez. 'Khand' is related to Kshatriya kings, like Bharatkhand, Bundelkhand, Vindhyalkhand, Rohilkhand, Kumaukhand, Uttarakhand etc.
