Mount Vernon Plaza (formerly known as Hybla Valley Shopping Center and South Valley Shopping Center) is a shopping center located in Alexandria, Virginia.
History[edit]
The plaza was built in 1960, with the addition of Thieves Market in 1965.
Kmart became the main anchor at the plaza in 1988 in the former Thieves Market building when it relocated from 6303 Richmond Hwy at Kings Crossing. It closed in 2000, and The Home Depot was built on the site in 2001 and ultimately became the main anchor. As a result of Kmart moving out of Kings Crossing since being there since 1973, the old Kmart at Kings Crossing became Builders Square from 1989 to 1995. and the old Kmart's Kmart Foods department became Chuck E. Cheese's on September 20, 1982. where it operated until 2009, when the original site became Walmart and Chuck E. Cheese reopened to the left in 2010.
In 2005, a small, vacant anchor was demolished to make way for PetSmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Michael's.
