The Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence is a program within Good Shepherd Community Care, which provides other services such as palliative care, pediatric palliative care, and grief programs.[1]

Mission[edit]
Good Shepherd Community Care “is dedicated to the delivery of the highest quality of care, support and education for those experiencing or anticipating serious illness and loss.”[3]
Patients served[edit]
The Parlin Residence serves terminally ill patients.[2] Examples of terminally ill diseases include cancer and dementia. Parlin has the capacity to serve ten patients at once, and typically operates a waitlist, historically turning away up to ten patients each month.[2] In 2010, it expanded from six to ten beds.[4]
In addition to end of life care, the Residence offers comprehensive care including counseling, spirituality, art, music, and pet therapy.[2]

The Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence is a program within Good Shepherd Community Care, which provides other services such as palliative care, pediatric palliative care, and grief programs.[2] Good Shepherd Community Care is run by Parmenter Community Health Center, which is local to Wayland, Massachusetts.[5]
The Parlin Residence is the oldest hospice in Massachusetts.[6]
Staff[edit]
Parlin is staffed twenty-four hours a day and has health care professionals on-site every day of the week. Patients are allowed to keep their prior physician used before moving into the residence.[5] Staff also includes home care aids and licensed professional nurses.[2]
Cost Coverage[edit]
While room and board must be paid privately, Parlin takes Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance to cover hospice care.[2]
Amenities[edit]
Parlin can be entered through a spacious, open hallway accompanied by a fireplace. Parlin offers ten private rooms that each comes with a private bathroom. Additionally, Parlin offers community rooms such as an open-concept kitchen, dining room, patio, and the Dora Eflim Healing Garden where families can spend time together.[6]
