Mario Mantegazza, Swiss entrepreneur. He belongs to one of the most important families in Switzerland, worth a total of over 2 billion francs. He is active in the world of international tourism, real estate, publishing and catering.

Biography[edit]

Mario Mantegazza was born in 1959 in Lugano, Switzerland, son of Geo Mantegazza, a Swiss engineer considered the father of Hockey Club Lugano, one of the most successful teams in this sport in Swiss history, now chaired by its sister Vicky Mantegazza. Her mother Elena is the eldest daughter of the famous Swiss master chocolatier Vittorio Vanini. Mario Mantegazza has been married since 1993 to Ana Maria Mantegazza Hernandez Martin, born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and has 4 children: Elisa (1982) and Marco (1985), born from his first marriage, Giorgia (1994) and Chiara (1996), daughters of his current wife.

Career[edit]

Mario Mantegazza grew up in Lugano until his high school studies and then moved to London to finish his studies. The English capital then becomes his work base from which he also moves to Spain and the United States for his activities in the family tourism context, in the world of Tour Operating and Aviation.

He returned to Lugano to deepen his knowledge of the financial world and worked as a Broker at the Institutional Desk of Prudential Bache and then founded, together with Antonio Carbone, I.M.M. Asset Management SA. He later purchased the nascent Publigood Communication Agency, which would soon become the most important agency in Italian Switzerland, thanks to its local and international clientele.

His great ambition then led him to found Ticino Welcome, a reference quarterly for the economy and lifestyle of the Canton of Ticino and Metaworld, which includes two restaurants: Meta, a starred and award-winning restaurant, and the Bistrot del Meta, all on the shore of Lake Lugano, inside the homonymous Palazzo Mantegazza, one of the most impressive buildings in Switzerland. Within Mario Mantegazza's Metaworld project there is also the Teatro Multimediale for Metamorphosis Events, created based on a project by Giugiaro Architettura, where tailor-made events are held in a elegant and cutting-edge location.

Mario Mantegazza over the years in Lugano was the promoter, with Fernando De Carli, of the Lugano Festival, he then organized, this time together with Alessandro Leto, the Lugano African Congress “LAC” a week of meetings international politicians for the meeting between African Heads of State and European entrepreneurs and finally he founded "Lugano Si", an Association that attempted to reawaken local politics to promote futuristic projects including the covering of the city's pedestrian area, the construction of a new conference and exhibition center and the creation of beaches in the magnificent gulf of Lugano.

Private life[edit]

Mario Mantegazza lives in Porza, a small town facing south, which dominates the Gulf of Lugano from above. He travels a lot for work and pleasure and is often met in St. Moritz, in Milan, in French Riviera, Tenerife and on family yachts in the most fashionable destinations in the Mediterranean. His activities reveal his passion for writing, for gastronomy and the constant search for beauty and good taste, even though he doesn't like to appear.
