Lee Jay Berman was a co-host of the popular radio talk show and podcast Talk It Over, which broadcasted over 100 episodes. Today he is a trainer and lecturer in the fields of mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiation.
His awards are many. In 2021, the Southern California Mediation Association (SCMA) named him their Cloke-Millen Peacemaker of the Year award[1], presented annually to an individual or organization in the dispute resolution community who inspires us through their passion and dedication to peacemaking.
In 2017, the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals> named him their inaugural "Distinguished Neutral of the Year[2]" in recognition of excellence in mediation and ADR training. In 2010, the SCMA presented him with the L.Randolf Lowry Award[3] presented annually to a member of the dispute resolution community who has honored and inspired us through their passion and dedication to education in the field of dispute resolution.
After vetting by the California legal community, the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal[4] twice named him "Top Neutral". He has been voted by his colleagues into the Who's Who Legal[5] (WWL) in International Commercial Mediation from 2012-2023, and in 2023 WWL named him to their inaugural list of "Thought Leaders" in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. And, after vetting of his colleagues, Berman was ranked by Chambers USA[6] as one of the top 40 commercial mediators in the United States from 2018-2022.
In 1994, he became a full-time mediator, and has since successfully mediated over 2,600 matters, many of which were high profile cases.
In 1999, he joined the American Arbitration Association (AAA) as a mediator on their national panels for commercial, employment, and construction matters. In 2002, he was accepted onto the AAA's arbitration panel, and in 2016 he was named to the AAA's elite Master Mediator panel for Employment Disputes. In 2020, Berman was named to the international panels of the International Center for Dispute Resolution (ICDR).
In 2008, Berman became one of the first five neutrals in the United States to be certified by the International Mediation Institute.
Berman is also a respected trainer who founded the American Institute of Mediation[7] after seven years as Director of Pepperdine Law School's Mediating the Litigated Case program (ranked #1 nationally). Berman has trained mediators, judges, attorneys, and business leaders across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe, as well as in India, Dubai, Uzbekistan, Australia, and New Zealand.
Lee Jay has been interviewed on dozens of podcasts, published numerous articles on mediation, and the American Bar Association will be publishing two of his books in 2022 and 2023.
