Joshua Blake Levy (born December 18, 1975) is an American nonprofit founder and author who has been the Executive Director of Joshua’s Stage since 2017, when he founded it[1]. He previously worked at Pearson, where he oversaw the development of standardized tests for various states.

Early Life and Education Joshua Levy was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He is the oldest son of Abby Root and Neil Levy. His paternal grandfather was a Hungarian immigrant while he has Russian ancestry on his mother’s side. Levy has a younger sister, Jenny. He lived in Meriden, Connecticut, West Windsor, New Jersey, Nashville, Tennessee, San Antonio, Texas, and Weston, Connecticut while growing up[2].

He attended Weston High School in Weston, Connecticut, where he ran track and was involved in the theater department. He majored in Education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating in 1998. At Nebraska, he focused primarily on special education.

After graduating, he moved to Austin, Texas to take a job teaching elementary special education at Blanton Elementary School. During this time, he also worked at Casis Elementary, Crockett Early College High School, and at Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) Early College High School in the special education departments.

He enrolled at Texas State University to get a Master of Education with a major in Educational Administration in 2004 while working as an Assistant Principal at Lake Travis Elementary School. He also worked at the Katherine Anne Porter School in Wimberley, Texas.

Career Pearson After leaving Lake Travis Elementary School, he began working at Pearson in the standardized tests department. He worked with teams developing tests in Virginia and Tennessee. He earned a Master’s of Businesses Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2011.

Joshua’s Stage Joshua’s Stage[3] is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Austin, Texas that provides theater and arts enrichment programs for individuals with special needs. It hosts after school programs, summer camps, weekend classes, and individual programs in Central Texas and virtually.

The Creative Outlet Method Levy developed the Creative Outlet Method through Joshua’s Stage, which is the process used at Joshua’s Stage for programming. Levy published The Creative Outlet Method: At-Home Activities for Children with Special Needs [4] to provide resources for implementing the Creative Outlet Method. He also consults for the Creative Outlet Method.

Personal Life In 2004, Levy married Lori Levy (nee Friedman), whom he met while living in Austin. They have two children. He still lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and children.
