Jinek was a Dutch talkshow on the Dutch network RTL 4 and was hosted by Eva Jinek. Every business day, guests appeared on the show to discuss current topics of significance. It was initially broadcast on the Nederland 2 network and later on NPO 2. Since January 2020, it could be seen on RTL. The show alternated with another talk show called Beau. Since January 10, 2021, Humberto, a talkshow presented by Humberto Tan, was added to the lineup.

History[edit]

KRO-NCRV (2013-2019)[edit]

Until May 23, 2013, Jinek hosted the WNL morning program "Eva Jinek op zondag" (Eva Jinek on Sunday). At the merger broadcaster KRO-NCRV, she initially did not review the past week but rather wanted to discuss the upcoming week. In the first episode on September 9, 2013, 175,000 people tuned in. During the summer and winter breaks in 2015 and the winter break of 2016, Jinek completely or partially replaced the program Pauw as the late-night show on NPO 1. Since 2017, the time slot from 11:00 PM to 12:00 AM was evenly divided between the programs Pauw and Jinek, except for the half-month preceding the Dutch general elections of 2017 and the Provincial Council elections of 2019, during which Eva Jinek and Jeroen Pauw hosted the political café Pauw & Jinek: The Elections. The program Jinek saw a surge in viewership in early 2017, surpassing its competitor RTL Late Night.

From July 30 to August 31, 2018, Nadia Moussaid replaced Jinek during her maternity leave. The name of the program was temporarily changed to Laat op één (Late on NPO 1), but the format remained the same.

RTL 4 (2020–2023)[edit]

On September 20, 2019, Jinek announced her move from public broadcasting after fifteen years to RTL, where she would co-host the late-night talk show on RTL 4 alternately with Beau van Erven Dorens. This marked the end of the program on NPO 1 on September 27, 2019. The first broadcast on RTL 4 aired on January 3, 2020, attracting 1,730,000 viewers, a personal viewership record for the presenter. RTL did not interrupt the program with advertisements during the first few months.

In the first full week of Jinek on RTL 4, the ratings lagged behind the new NPO talk show Op1. Since its second season on RTL, the program has consistently garnered between 900,000 and 1,200,000 viewers, surpassing Op1. The topics covered in both programs are interchangeable, often featuring the same current affairs with different guests. Each episode concludes with a segment from LuckyTV.

Since May 2020, the format of Jinek has also formed the basis of Van Erven Dorens' talk show and since January 2021, Humberto's. Both Jinek and Beau have been airing at 10:00 PM since the fall of 2020, with the program lasting about an hour and a half.

On August 29, 2021, Jinek returned after a few months' hiatus, but this time starting on Sunday instead of Monday. This episode focused on Peter R. de Vries and his attack. For safety reasons, this episode was pre-recorded instead of being broadcast live.

From March 22, 2022, to March 31, 2022, Jinek was replaced as the host by Humberto Tan due to illness. He also took over her broadcast on February 15, 2023, as she participated in the National Action Day held for the victims of the Earthquake in Turkey and Syria on February 6 of that year.

Starting from the eleventh season on August 29, 2022, Jinek was joined by Roelof Hemmen as a regular sidekick to provide insights and backgrounds on the news of the day. Hemmen is replaced by Merel Westrik when he is unavailable, such as in the broadcast on October 7, 2022.

From October 24 to 28, 2022, Jinek was again replaced because she tested positive for COVID-19. This time she was replaced by Beau van Erven Dorens. Her interview with Camille van Gestel about the covid-mask deal on September 16, 2022, was awarded the Sonja Barend Award 2023.

Concept[edit]

In the program, Jinek hosts various guests with whom she discusses current topics of the day. The show offers a diverse mix of news and human interest stories. Regular guests include political reporters Floor Bremer and Wouter de Winther, opinion pollster Gijs Rademaker, internists Ernst Kuipers and Marcel Levi, intensivist Diederik Gommers, Marc-Marie Huijbregts, and Özcan Akyol. Since May 2020, the format of Jinek has also served as the basis for Van Erven Dorens' talk show and since January 2021, for Humberto's. Both Jinek and Beau have been airing at 10:00 PM since the fall of 2020, with the program lasting about an hour and a half.

Spin-off[edit]

In the lead-up to the 2021 Dutch parliamentary elections, the program Jinek collaborated with RTL News. Under the banner "Jinek & RTL Nieuws: The Battle for the Voter," Jinek hosted party leaders, politicians, political reporters, and commentators to discuss current themes and the latest news surrounding the elections. They followed a similar format in the run-up to the 2022 Municipal Council elections.
