  • Comment: Given that an article on this subject has been deleted following no fewer than three AfD discussions, any draft presented must establish notability clearly and indisputably beyond reasonable doubt. This draft fails not only fails to do that, it also provides no obvious claim of noteworthiness, making the article, even if it were accepted, an obvious candidate IMO for A7 speedy deletion. The International Society for Philosophical Inquiry is a global, scientific and philosophical society for individuals of high IQ. Founded in 1974, it is dedicated to advanced research and original contributions. Its members use their talents to enhance the progress and development of an enlightened culture and a modern civilization.:[1].

Origin[edit]

ISPE was founded by Cav. Dr. Christopher Harding, an expert in the field of psychometrics residing in Queensland (Australia). The society is organized by officers and other volunteers elected and appointed in accordance with the bylaws[2].

The ISPE motto is “Quaere Verum”, which means “Seek the truth”. As an organization, ISPE has no official political opinion nor any affiliation. It focuses its objectives on using the intellect for the betterment of society and on providing a forum for conversation and exchange of views to promote the intellectual development of its members.

The society's newspaper is called Telicom (ISSN 1087-6456), a title derived from “telic” (“toward a principle or goal”) and an abbreviation of “communication.” On its pages are published art, poetry and original articles preferably of general interest to members. Controversial issues that spark lively discussion are particularly welcome. Telicom is published six times a year.

Scope of activities[edit]

In 1981, the Guinness Book of World Records stated that the ISPE had 239 members, of whom all have mean IQ of 160, none below 148, and some above 183[3]”. Another reference appears in the 1993 edition.[4]

In April 2006, membership had grown to 583 members in 29 countries, although the majority (81.65%) resided in the USA in 45 states and the District of Columbia.

The 29 countries are Australia, Belgium, Canada, China (Hong Kong SAR), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, and USA.[5]

Admission to the Society[edit]

Admission is generally limited to persons who have reached or exceeded the 99.9th percentile of the population on one of the accepted intelligence tests or aptitude tests.

ISPE's informal name is "The Thousand", a name originally (and briefly) given to the society in 1974, because its admission level is 1:1000 (3.09 standard deviations above of a normal distribution) – an IQ of 149 on an intelligence test such as the Stanford-Binet, which has a standard deviation of 16, or 146 on tests that use a standard deviation of 15, such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adults[6].

The company is governed democratically through the vote of members who have reached at least the level of "Member" ("full member")[7].

Levels of Association[edit]

ISPE features an advancement system designed to encourage its members to use their skills for the benefit of humanity. The company has six ordinary levels of association[8]

  • Associate Member (66,7%)
  • Member (14,1%)
  • Fellow (7,4%)
  • Senior Fellow (4,6%)
  • Senior Research Fellow (3,3%)
  • Diplomate (2,7%).

The seventh level is a special level (Philosopher, 0.5%).

New members start at the "Associate" level and are granted voting rights after advancing to "Member." The first six levels can be achieved by demonstrating various successes that put the company's goals into practice. The "Diplomate" level must be approved by a majority of voting members when the candidate is nominated for advancement.

"Philosopher" is the highest level. It's an honorific that can't be "earned," and it's rare. "Mentors" (0.7%) are distinguished people outside of society[9]
