Draft:Dr. Funk (cocktail)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'Dr. Funk is the name of an alcoholic cocktail developed in the 19th centurys by the German tropical physician Bernhard Funk in Samoa as a tropical medicine.

History[edit]

Several slightly different versions have survived: absinthe, rum and pomegranate syrup, as well as lemons and lime juice are the basic ingredients. Bernhard Funk shared the recipe with friends in French Polynesia, and the cocktail spread throughout the ocean region, starting with Tahiti. The drink thus became the model for the "South Sea cocktails" that emerged in the 1920s and became popular in the 1950s. It is therefore considered to be the "mother of all cocktails". Of all the cocktails currently popular, the 'Zombie' is the most similar in composition. Dr. Funk is the only cocktail to have been created in Oceania (Polynesia). Traditionally, it is served in a glass of Pilsner beer. However, as part of Tiki fashion, imaginative containers were and still are used. Thanks to various exhibitions and publications, the drink has recently regained popularity.[1][2]
