Clifford Charles White (28 January 1908 - 6 January 1983) was a well-known Australian stock agent, who had owned "Penville" Pastoral Co., "Charlton" Farm and C. C. White Stock Agent Co. at Rockley, in later years. Cliff and his wife Ona purchased "Charlton" from the MacPhillamy Family, who inherited it because of the relation to Thomas Arkell, a very locally famous settler around Bathurst in the late 1810s.[1]

Career[edit]

Cliff was a stock agent, as stated. His grandfather was one too, and all of his family lived in rural areas and worked jobs revolving around agriculture. He was also ringmaster at agricultural shows including the Penrith Show in the 1950s-1960s[2]

Personal life[edit]

Cliff Married Ona Viney in 1927 in Sydney.[3] They had their daughter Juel in 1928 in Burwood. They proceeded to have 6 other children. After 7, they had 4 sons and 3 daughters. Cliff's youngest son, Ross, and Cliff's wife Laurel inherited "Penville" and "Charlton". Penville was sold to the NSW government to make way for the construction of the University of Western Sydney - Kingswood Campus. After Cliff retired, his children inherited their own bits of "Charlton", the overwhelming majority went to Ross and Laurel. Laurel died in 1998, and her land was purchased by Ross. From the end of 2019 and on, Ross has been at the Gorman's Hill Macquarie Care Nursing Home in Bathurst, and his son Tim owns and manages "Charlton".
