Bishops fundamental costs - BFCS
Summary
Bishops fundamental costs is a charity founded in 2022 which aims to provide children in need with free school uniform in the East Herts and Uttlesford district.
How it started
During July 2022, a workshop day was held at Birchwood high school called ‘local to global’ by Clarion futures and Dr. Rob Powers. Here, students were tasked to create a charity idea that was able to be implemented as quick as possible. The now founder and Co-CEO, Leighton Bishop, then aged 15 was in a group with 7 other pupils, they created a base idea of a charity where people can receive free school uniform. At the end of the day all groups had to present their ideas to the rest in under two minutes, with the prize being that they would go to London to take part in a larger competition at Clarions headquarters. Leighton’s group came second in the competition, with ‘community ballers’ coming first.
The group, led by Leighton Bishop still got the chance to go to London. 11th November 2022, both the now BFCS and community ballers travelled to the Clarion headquarters where multiple other schools attended. However, of the original group, only Leighton Bishop and two others remained, with an additional new member, Severin Fleet. During this day, all groups from all schools had to present their idea to a panel of professionals in the hope of winning £4,000 in order to kickstart the idea. In result, two groups won; BFCS and a group from another school.
First event
BFCSs first event was held on the 1st July 2023 at the community centre in Jackson square, Bishop Stortford.
