Bill Gerber is an American politician, currently serving as the First Selectman of Fairfield, Connecticut since November, 2023.
After graduating from Wesleyan University in 1986, Gerber was among the first Western exchange students to attend Beijing University under China’s new Open Door Policy. When he returned to the United States, he earned an MBA in Finance and an MS in Accounting from the NYU Stern School of Business, and his CPA license while working for a major accounting firm in New York City.
Gerber was first elected to the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting, Fairfield's town legislative body, in 2013, and served until 2023.
On February 23, 2023, Gerber announced his campaign for First Selectman of Fairfield, Connecticut, challenging incumbent Brenda Kupchick. Gerber and his running mate Christine Vitale defeated Kupchick and Brian Farnen in the November general election.
Gerber has been married to his wife Jessica, who is a 12 year member of the Fairfield Board of Education, for 28 years. They had three children together – John, Teddy, and Jillian. In 2010, their son Teddy passed away after becoming ill with a rare type of cancer. The family hosts an annual fundraising event, “Team Teddy Osborn Hill School,” first organized by parents of local Scouts and raising more than $1.4 million for pediatric cancer research since 2010.
