BaltaLietuviai is a Lithuanian amateur basketball club based in the city of Vilnius. Founded in 2022 May, the club competes in the Sostinės Krepšinio Lyga.[1]
History[1][2][edit]
Vilnius amateur basketball team "BaltaLietuviai" has been playing in the strongest Vilnius amateur basketball league since 2022. Most of its players are young pupils of the Vilnius Basketball School and older legionnaires from other cities.
2022 / 23 season[edit]
In its debut season, "BaltaLietuviai" dominated the regular season and easily entered the playoffs, where they went all the way to the semi-finals. There "BaltaLietuviai" beat the representatives of "BuzzerBeater" with the result of 84:74. However, after the match, the basketball players of "BuzzerBeater" noticed that a basketball player who did not have a team license was registered under a different name among the opponents, so they filed a protest. According to SKL Regulations, point 24.7, the protest was satisfied, so "BaltaLietuviai" was awarded a technical defeat 0:20, and the "BuzzerBeater" team entered the finals. There was much less intrigue in the duel for the third place, and the bronze was enjoyed by the team of "BaltaLietuviai", which learned from the mistakes of its youth, without much difficulty, defeating the representatives of "Vilko Brolija-2" with a score of 85:78. Although the "BaltaLietuviai" team lacked the most important player in attack, Matas Sakalnikas, who not only collected double-doubles almost every time in the championship, but also played well in defense, but this did not bother the youth team at all. From the first minutes of the meeting, "BaltaLietuviai" knocked down the opponents, and at the halfway point of the duels, they had an impressive advantage of 19 results (52:33). After the big break, the backups of "Vilko Brolija-2" got together a bit and did not allow the rivals to get further away, but the youth controlled the match quite calmly for a while and did not allow the rivals to recreate the intrigue. Therefore, the "BaltaLietuviai" team just calmly received the final sirens and celebrated their bronze victory.
Already in 2023 BaltaLietuviai returned to the SKL Spring'D playoffs, where they had a difficult start and due to their poor play the team was moved to the SKL Spring'D Minor Cup playoffs, where they performed very well, but were defeated by the team "Krituliai" in the finals with the final score 101:93, and won the silver medals.
2023 / 24 season[edit]
At the beginning of the 2023/24 season, BaltaLietuviai renewed its line-up, logo and jerseys and started a new stage in its basketball journey by entering the newly created Vilnius Basketball League.
