The Aurora Vent Field and nearby seamount is located at the southern end of the Gakkel Ridge and northern end of the Lena Trough. The vent field was first visually confirmed using an ROV in 2014. Expeditions to this vent field include PS86, HACON19 and HACON21. These expeditions have discovered the black smokers, sampled the composition of the black smoke plumes as well as biological communities in the vicinity.[1]
