Pilote's[1] debut album release for Certificate 18 is called Antenna,[2] a collection of tracks displaying heavenly hooks, snatched euphorias from a very friendly dancefloor, happy softcore evolving from microscopic breakdowns, these adventurous rhythms, plural melodies, and ambient textures that will keep you intrigued."[3]

Pilote's first album, Antenna, was recorded in Brighton and released in 1999 on Certificate 18 Records.[4][5] The album was supposedly made on "An old PC and a dodgy Yamaha".[6] The first track on the LP, "Turtle", would in 2000 be remixed by Bonobo and appear in an advertising campaign for the now defunct phone company One2One

The cover shows 2 people working one on the right, one in the back as they work on camera like telescope thingies. Photography was made by Darren Regnier and Big Corporate Disco.

Reception[edit]

"Stuart Cullen followed Hi Ryze's contribution to the Electronic Projects subdivision of Paul Arnold's respected Certificate 18 label with some skeletal breakbeats of his own, his debut album following up from his superb Tonic extended player in its combination of broken percussion with lo-fi melodics and waif-like synths. Overheard snatches of sound hold the whole thing tentatively together, his Antenna taking in everything from answering machines in "Message From the Bigman" to forgettable TV chitchat and the unmistakable Peter Cook. This is far from an album of Scanner and Aphex Twin-inspired oddities, however, with Pilote's defining characteristic in his ability to humanize the electronica through an underlay of emotive funk."[7]
