Confusion[edit]

Why must music samples be in OGG format? Can't Wikipedia accept other formats, such as WAV, MP3 or WMA? --Fandelasketchup (talk) 11:14, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The OGG format is not copyright protected.--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 18:47, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Automation - how does it work?[edit]

Could someone explain how this category is populated? I recently created Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes (a piece of classical orchestral music based on traditional songs). It not a song, so shouldn't really be checked to be put in this category. Cheers Robevans123 (talk) 15:12, 30 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Robevans123: Hello, I came across your message after I'd fixed the problem. When you created Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes you used Template:Infobox musical composition, this template had a bug in it from the day it was created in 2008, and no one noticed it until we did; with you beating me to it by a whole year. The part of the template that requested an audio sample by adding it to this category was actually adding every article that used the template, regardless. I fixed the template last week and 750 articles removed themselves from the category, including the article you created. A long wait for a reply, but at least you now know. - X201 (talk) 09:09, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@X201: Hi there. A good fix and thanks for letting me know. Always good to see a maintenance category getting smaller. Cheers Robevans123 (talk) 15:35, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
