Not people from Genoa[edit]

people from Genoa are people from the specific city. The Republic of Genoa was much larger than just the city. Thus many of these people were not from Genoa and it is incorrect to categorize them as being from Genoa.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:07, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good name[edit]

This is a good name. From is a much clearer linkage. We categorize people by the country they are nationals of. This coyluntry existed for about 700 years. People were citizens, subjects or nationals of it. Those people were from it. From has been found to be the best modifier to link people to where they are from. This was decided with a long discussion for the Ottoman Empire, the Russian Empire and other places. We need to make the link to the past Republic clear, but it is a link of all citizens. Genoese might seem a better name, but it leaves open inclusion of people from Genoa until this day, and that is not what we want.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:29, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
