Scout-like movements[edit]

For example, it seems to me that Baden-Powell Scouts and Sokol should be in different categories because Baden-Powell Scouts is a descendant of the Scout Movement whereas Sokol was in existence prior to what is commonly considered the birth of the Scout Movement in the early 1900s. --Jagz 18:48, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of scouting[edit]

For the purposes of this Category, how is the word "scouting" defined and should it be capitalized? --Jagz 14:30, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See our RulesStandards page: "This category is for Scouting organizations that are not recognized by WOSM or WAGGGS, for whatever the reason. This includes Royal Rangers, Traditional Scouting, Primitive Scouting, WFIS, FSE and OWS, which are all Scouting or Scout-like movements. There are only very few known non-WAGGGS (girl) organizations like the Frontier Girls, American Heritage Girls and some German associations." Just because it isn't wosm/wagggs, doesn't mean it's not Scouting. Also, our guideline: "Its aim is to develop young people physically, spiritually and mentally so that youth may take a constructive place in society. This is achieved through non-formal education with emphasis on practical activities in the outdoors, the so called Scout method." This cat is a cat for breakaway orgs like BP Scouts that are still Scouting. Boys Brigade preceded BP too but almost everyone considers them part of the Scouting movement. What may be better is to decide what is or isn't Scouting, just merely another youth movement. The two Sokol orgs may well fall into that category. The article Scouting says that Scouting began in 1907, which seems to imply that the Scout Movement also began in 1907. The Boys Brigade started in 1883. --Jagz 15:28, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose of this category?[edit]

So, a category for Scout organisations/organizations that are not part of WOSM? Why does this matter? Do we have a category for supermarkets that are not part of the Walmart Group? Surely they are either Scouts or not Scouts, and aligning to the POV of WOSM seems a bit non-encyclopedic. DiverScout (talk) 18:40, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
