Misapplied scope[edit]

So, this category is called "Legendary Chinese people", and it's a subcat of Category:Fictional Chinese people. It's in the scope of WikiProject Fictional characters, WikiProject Folklore, and WikiProject Mythology, if the wrapper template above is to be believed.

So far, no problem. But yesterday I removed Xiang Yu, whose historicity is not in dispute, from this category, with an edit summary to the effect that "legends having grown around him" did not invalidate the historical fact of his existence. Then I ran across another historical figure in this category, and came here to check it out, finding that most of the members are historical people and not fictional characters, and there's a sentence at the top saying that the category is for "Chinese people appearing in legends", which is way different and much vaster. It's also probably not a sane category, and there's probably several category policies against such a thing (not defining, intersection, or somethings).

Anyway I intend to respect the tree and the project tags and disregard the sentence at the top of the category page, and will be removing historical figures from this category, even if someone put them into a legend later on. Folly Mox (talk) 00:39, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
