The category of Chinese character strokes[edit]

"Chinese character strokes" should be a category parallel to category "Chinese character components". They represent two different structural levels of Chinese characters. Ctxz2323 (talk) 13:07, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've been using "component" as the term for any smaller part of a character's structure, down to individual strokes. Is this wrong? Remsense 13:11, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In many traditional textbooks, "components" and "strokes" are separate sections under topic "structures" or "forms".
Normally, a component is smaller than a whole character and bigger than a stroke. Only in very rare cases will they be equal. And a radical is a kind of component for dictionary lookup, don't get confused. Ctxz2323 (talk) 03:43, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's ask Kanguole (talk · contribs) to join our discussion to make sure it makes sense. It is really a bit tough. Ctxz2323 (talk) 04:08, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is that they are different levels. Strokes are the atoms. Kanguole 08:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, making a firm distinction makes sense. Thank you as always, + @Ctxz2323 Remsense 10:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both!
Yes, generally speaking, the hierarchical structure is: whole characters>components>strokes.
Though, in a sense, Remsense is also correct to argue that strokes can be a kind of components. Ctxz2323 (talk) 10:37, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
