Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted because it is intended as a placeholder for Category:Avant-garde musicians by instrument and its subcategories. It is possible that this category might contain no articles, if they remain categorized within the "Category:Avant-garde musicians by instrument" subcategories. For whatever reason, when I actually set these up, I had forgotten to place "Category:Avant-garde musicians by instrument" within this category (until a moment ago).--Gyrofrog (talk) 21:43, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some background: categories "Avant-garde guitarists", "Avant-garde double-bassists" etc. were (judging from their edit histories) created within a jazz context, were included under Category:Avant-garde jazz musicians by instrument, and thus would have been more properly named "Avant-garde jazz guitarists", etc. I created new jazz-related categories about a year ago, placing them under "Category:Avant-garde jazz musicians by instrument", and, in turn, removing these existing categories from that structure. (Also see archived WT:JAZZ discussion). However, until recently I never did follow up with a "Category:Avant-garde musicians by instrument" in which to place all of these; "Category:Avant-garde musicians" is, in turn (and if nothing else), a placeholder for "Category:Avant-garde musicians by instrument" and all of its subcategories, based on similar categorization for other styles of music. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:53, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
