Arya Gopi

Arya Gopi is a Malayalam poet from India. She is a bilingual poet and translator who works in both English and Malayalam. She has more than half a dozen published books, including six Malayalam poetry collections. Her first English title, 'Sob of Strings,' was published in 2011, and in 2023, she released her new collection titled 'One Hundred Lines of Discords.' A contributor to major Malayalam journals, she has won more than fifty literary recognitions, both national and international, including the Kerala State Sahitya Academy Kanakasree Award. A regular face at literary events in Kerala, she recites poems at international festivals of letters and conferences conducted by Kendra/Kerala Sahitya Akademi and television channels. Her poems are available in multilingual anthologies. She also publishes and presents on various literary topics and has participated in several international conferences. Her English poems have appeared in Guftugu Magazine, Muse India Journal, Teesta Review, eShe Magazine, Modern Literature International Journal, The Usawa Literary Review, Kavishala Magazine, Samyukta Poetry, Indian Literature, Malayalam Literary Survey, and elsewhere. She is an executive committee member of the Malayalam Mission under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. She is the recipient of the Sharjah International Book Festival Translation Grant. She represented Malayalam poetry in three international festivals of letters (Imhal 2019, Shimla 2022, and New Delhi 2024) hosted by Sahitya Akademi Delhi. Her poems were translated into Hindi, English, Kannada, and Bengali. With a Ph.D. in English literature, Arya is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Research and Post Graduate Department of English at The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College affiliated with the University of Calicut, Kerala. She has won numerous awards and honours including Kerala Sahithya Akademi Kanakasree Award, Kerala Government Youth Icon Award, Kerala StateYouth Welfare Board Swami Vivekananda Yuva Pratibha Award, Vyloppilli Award, ONV International Yuva Award, Kakkad Award, VT Kumaran Master Award, etc. Her poetry collections Avasanathe Manushyan (Green Books) and Pakalanival(DC Books) were shortlisted for the Kendra Sahithya Akademi Yuva Puraskar in 2015 and 2019 respectively.

Arya Gopi is a bilingual poet and translator. She works in both English and Malayalam. Arya is an Assistant Professor, Research Guide, and Head of the Research and Post Graduate Department of English at The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College affiliated with the University of Calicut, Kerala. She has more than half a dozen published books, including six Malayalam poetry collections. Born to noted Malayalam poet P K GopiP._K._Gopi and Komalam on March 28, Arya Gopi has published ten books in two languages.A regular face at literary events in Kerala, she recites poems at international festival of letters conducted by organisation such as ministry of cultural affairs-Kendra/Kerala Sahitya Akademy,[1] Mathrubhumi,[2] Manorama,[3] D C Books[4] and Hindu dailies apart from various web and visual media.

A first rank holder in MA English language and literature[citation needed] from University of Calicut, Arya is now an assistant professor in English at Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode. She completed her PhD – Other India – A Socio Literary Analysis of Select Works of Mark Tully.[5]
