Achar/Achari/Achary/Acharya (ஆச்சாரி in tamil) is an Indian surname found among various caste groups in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, kerala and also in the country of Nepal.

Acharya is a surname commonly associated with certain Brahmin groups such as Sakdvipya Brahmins, as well as some Vaishya communities like Seth/Johri. It is also found among certain Nepali castes and in Northern India, where individuals with this surname often serve as instructors.

'Asari' or Achari is another surname found in the Vishwakarma or Kammalar community from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, consisting of carpenters and also engaged in other professional jobs.
