On April 19th, 2024, a riverboat carrying around 300 people, who were en route to a funeral in a village, capsized in the Mpoko River, Bangui, Central African Republic.[2][3]
Background[edit]
In many countries in Africa, including the Central African Republic, many vehicles are usually overcrowded with people, as laws are not really enforced, leading to high death tolls in vehicle accidents.[citation needed]

Faustin-Archange Touadéra announced three days of national mourning throughout the entire territory, from April 22nd to the 25th.[4] During the three-days mourning, the flag was flown at half-mast.[5]
International[edit]
- Russia: The Embassy of Russia in Bangui expressed condolences to the families of the victims. In Moscow, several people laid down flowers in front of the Central African Republic's Embassy to show support.[5]
- United Arab Emirates: Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates expressed his condolences to both the Government and the victims families.[6]
