The comment claims it's the German language space. But this would be a very narrow interpretation of what German is. Please note that Germanic languages were also spoken eastward of the red/orange areas. --41.14.24.43 (talk) 17:29, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]


yeah but "germanic" and "german" are separate by the 10th century. what germanic languages were spoken eastward of those areas anyway, crimean gothic? if anything the map is being somewhat generous in the slavic-speaking east and southeast 87.202.131.32 (talk) 23:19, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This map is imprecise. Look at Upper Alsace. The Western Germanic-Romance languange border should be more westwards in Flanders while it is doubtful that Metz was part of the Frankish language area. --Furfur (talk) 12:56, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
