The stave church at Ringebu, built c.1220, is one of 28 surviving stave churches and is one of the largest. Parts of the Ringebu church date back to the 13th century with various bits added in later centuries. There are archeological evidence that this church may date back to the period of Christianisation of Norway. Also a rather significant finding of over 800 coins was made with many coins dating back to the times of Haakon Haakonson (1217-1263) and the oldest coin dated around 1020s.
