Introduced yearlong-green perennial, tufted or turf-forming grass, to 90 cm tall and with
long slender rhizomes. A native of Europe and Asia, it is mostly found in cooler, moister areas in the south and higher elevations in the north of the region. Commonly planted as a lawn species and found in
disturbed areas (e.g. roadsides). More common on loamy soils, but also found on
sandy and gravel soils; not well adapted to heavy clay soils.
