DescriptionMelted Chaos from Sudbury Impact Crater .jpg
The mesmerizing impact melt of the Sudbury Impactite, from concentric rock formations outlining a large crater. The Sudbury crater was created by a big rock from space crashing into the Earth 1.87 billion years ago. The impact structure has since been pinched one way and elongated the other direction to 190 km length by plate tectonics.
The polished 9 x 6 inch slice of Grey Onaping Fallback Breccia is from Highway 144 near Dowling, Sudbury District, Ontario and sold to yours truly by the Rox Rock Shop in Westport Ontario.
Further linkage for the power and extent of the Sudbury impactor by its rattling what was the 1.87 billion year old landscape over in what is now Thunder Bay, 600 miles away.
