Fogarty held its 50th anniversary symposium, "What are the new frontiers in global health research?" on May 1, 2018, at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Patty Garcia, professor at Peru’s Cayetano University, said Fogarty support allowed her to complete advanced studies in the U.S., which enabled her to conduct research on sexually transmitted diseases in her country and eventually to become its minister of health.
