Article tagging bot

I will soon place a bot request that will add the {{WikiProject Pittsburgh}} tag to articles within this list of Pittsburgh-related categories: User:Blargh29/Subcats of Category:Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (I have just undertaken a similar effort at WP:PENNA.) I need a few project members to look through that list for categories that are not Pittsburgh-related. Remember that WP:PITTSBURGH includes the city proper, as well as the surrounding counties. Also, add some categories, if they are missing.--Blargh29 (talk) 08:32, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

It has also been requested that the bot auto-assess articles by looking to see if the article has a {{stub}} template, or inheriting classes from other projects. If there are any objections to this, please make them known! –xenotalk 18:57, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Done, with no reported errors yet.--Blargh29 (talk) 15:45, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:47, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

GA Reassessment of Litchfield Towers

I have done a GA Reassessment of the Litchfield Towers article as part of the GA Sweeps project. My review can be found here. I have found that the artice does not meet the current GA Criteria. As such I have put the article on hold for a week and I am notifying all interested projects and editors. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me on my talk page. H1nkles (talk) 18:13, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

I noticed this project was mentioned on the talk page of Alcoa Power Generating Inc.. Since that company has little more than a headquarters in Pittsburgh, perhaps the American headquarters of Siemens VAI, covered in the Voestalpine article, qualifies as well.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:17, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Pittsburgh articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Pittsburgh articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

New PAhistoric infobox template for Pittsburgh

For anyone interested in creating or editing articles on Pennsylvania or Pittsburgh historic sites or landmarks, I have created a new Pennsylvania historic infobox modeled on the National Registry of Historic Places infobox. This infobox is intended for state or local historic sites and landmarks that are not listed on the national registry, but are designated as historic by Pennsylvania and/or regional or local authorities and organizations. Like the NRHP infobox, the PAhistoric infobox will place color-coded banners signifying the historical significance of the subject at the top of the infobox, can handle both local Pittsburgh designations (City designated and PH&LF designated) that are already thoroughly covered in Wikipedia articles/lists, and also provides the ability for other fully-customizeable local designations. CrazyPaco (talk) 05:56, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Excellent addition, I have been toying with one for weeks off and on. Thanks again CP! Hholt01 (talk) 17:11, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Disappearing members list

Not to get all Nixonian and Watergateish on you (or if you prefer Clintonian and Whitewaterish) but somehow some of us Pittsburgh enthusiasts are "disappearing", including yours truly, from the list of members. Being that this is a hobby and labor of love for most of us I find it pretty annoying that someone vandalizes membership lists. Takes all the fun out of contributing, improving and conferencing with members if your status is constantly being erased. I suspect I'm not the only one being deleted as the months and years go by (and to think of the members that maybe took a year off and dont contribute much anymore!). Anyway here is a March 2007 archive, I was almost gonna just reinsert my name at #32 or whatever it was (too tired to look it up right now) but if this is a periodic problem for us wanted to put it on the table (as well as my own bona-fides since Wiki is sometimes now more like a court of law then a fun hobby to learn and share).

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Pittsburgh&oldid=113173173#Members

I'll give it a week or two before I "correct" the members list and would love any input on this but did want to alert all of us that some members (not myself) that might want to contribute but then find their name erased months later might be defeating the whole point of iliiciting help and support in a "Pittsburgh Project". A little tighter control over list edits might be helpful in the future as a moral and esprit de corps thing for us. Just my two cents. Hholt01 (talk) 06:51, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

I don't understand you, you are listed on the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Pittsburgh#Members and as far as I can tell, you were never removed from it. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:00, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
There I am at #26 (late night last night) I did the CNTRL+F function and it came up with only my posts, ok mia culpa on that, however I do remember checking the order. No complaints on moving up to 26, however I do see the order did change from 2007 by a few (members that deleted their own accounts?). Please downgrade my concern to curiousity at the movement in rankings at this point, and appreciation for humoring my caffine high at 3am. Hholt01 (talk) 05:28, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
The order is not that important, particularly as some people add themselves to the top, other to the bottom. At some point we may want to see about a roll call to remove inactive members... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 14:28, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
I think I'll do just that. See below. Grsz11 17:27, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

After some discussion at WT:HOCKEY over some changes I have made to this template, it has been requested that a more central discussion on some link removals take place. As such, I invite anyone intersted to comment at Template talk:Pittsburgh Penguins of the addition or removal of some links. Resolute 22:44, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for posting here Resolute. The central issue as best as I can tell is that they are attempting to remove "trivial" "Culture and Lore" links. This means for the Pens navbox the removal of Sudden Death, Zach and Miri, HBO 24/7 and She's out of my League. Although this has been conducted with the very best of intentions I obviously don't feel that they have a grasp on the local importance these films carry with the team and fanbase, not oscar winners but it's my observations Pens fans and obviously the team itself were and are quite proud of the relevance of these films/shows. Please comment only at the main discussion, my purpose here was to give a quick synopsis. I invite any members interested to at least take a peek and cast a vote with a short reason, but as always all your thoughts on the matter are welcomed. Hholt01 (talk) 17:34, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Requesting help from Pittsburgh Wikipedians

Hello Pittsburgh Wikipedians: I'm teaching a composition course at Pitt that involves researching and writing about Pittsburgh neighborhoods. For one of the students' projects, I'm having them expand existing Pittsburgh Wikipedia stubs. Everyone is new to Wikipedia editing (including myself). We've had some help already from User:Piotrus, but he also suggested I recruit other editors working on Pittsburgh projects to help us. I've contacted a few people, but it seems they are not active on Wikipedia at the moment. Would any of you be willing to give us feedback and advice as we move along? Our deadline is 11/22, and I'd love to have feedback for students by 12/6.

My course page is here User:Llh19/pittsburghcityseminar, with links at the bottom to the pages students are editing (6 total).

Let me know if you might be willing to help. Thanks very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Llh19 Llh19 (talk) 03:50, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Llh19

Feel free to leave a message on my talk page. I'll help any way I can. Pitt alum, Grsz11 03:53, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

A consideration for cross project consolidation of talk page templates

I have started a conversation here about the possibility of combining some of the United States related WikiProject Banners into {{WikiProject United States}}. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please take a moment and let me know. --Kumioko (talk) 20:12, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
