Anthony Pettis[edit]

Hello. I don't actually know who Anthony Pettis is, all I do is clean up after other people. I looked at my last edit to that article here and I don't see where I removed that nickname. This doesn't mean I didn't do it earlier but I just don't remember nor do I see that particular edit of mine in the history of the article. That said, we do need a reliable source to back up that claim along with a citation so that any visitor to the sight can verify that that is his nickname and people use it. The fact that you know it's a true claim does not really matter since future visitors do not know who you are. And telling them to just watch Pettis fight is not how things are done on Wikipedia. I have no plans on removing that information but the ideal situation would be that you would find specific mention of it (like on Sherdog) and create the appropriate citation for the article. If you need any help in that regard do not hesitate to ask. SQGibbon (talk) 21:26, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I went back further and see where I removed his nickname from the lead sentence. That was a slightly different situation. First, it looks ugly to have his nickname in quotes like that. Adding the nickname like: Anthony Pettis (also known as Showtime) ... looks better and more professional. But the bigger issue was that someone else had changed it to a different nickname and since neither your nor their edit supplied a source and given that I don't know who this person is, the easiest solution was to remove both of your edits. When people edit-war make contradictory edits but do not supply reliable sources to back up their claims neutral editors, like me, will often just delete all of the contentious material until such time as someone provides a good citation. That's what happened here. SQGibbon (talk) 21:33, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
